Summer 1 - Greetings and Welcome - Action

[ It's a mild sunny day when the first group of guests make land at Norrhamn. A gentle breeze rustle the birch trees and tangle in the bunting that's hung across the buildings in celebration of this very special occasion. Aina has been busy gathering up guests over the last few hours and now the ferry is approaching the port, waves breaking gently against the bow.

Olivia is waiting on the jetty, clipboard hugged close to her body. She's excited and nervous all at once, anxious to get to meet these people that she's read so much about, the faces behind the pleading letters. This is the first day her new job becomes hands on. Hopefully she'll be good at it.

As the ferry lands and lets the guests off, Olivia raises a hand in a cheerful greeting. ]

Hello! Welcome to Norrhamn!

[Lisa blinks, hearing the comment. Sloooowly turns to the young man making the comment. Blinks again.

And then grins with a soft laugh.]

Sorry, but that was perfect. I couldn't help myself. But- yeah. It seems peaceful.

( color him just a little bit surprised at her response — what exactly was perfect? his delivery of an incredibly innocent line? — but she's laughing, smiling, and that's good enough, he guesses.

that grin of his turns lopsided as it often tends to do, and he gives a little half-shrug. ) Lot more peaceful than what I'm used to, honestly. ( boy ain't that the truth. ) I can't remember the last time I had a real, honest-to-God vacation.

[She's used to lovable idiots that are either too stiff to handle humor properly, or Ako, who is waist-deep into chuuni speech but can't quite come up with her own lines. Proper comedic timing is hard to come by in Roselia.]

Well, take what you can get, right? I don't have anything like that, my hardest thing is showing up to band practice after school and not forgetting my bass lines. What do you do, if it's okay for me to ask?

( maybe you can get away with calling this dodo a lovable idiot — he definitely fits into the idiot category ninety percent of the time — but he absolutely relies more on humor than he should in a lot of situations, most of which tending to err on the side of too emotional but this! is not one of those times so it's really just him being a dodo. have we mentioned he's like that? ) Man, I wish that was all I had to worry about.

( his grin is just a little sheepish, and he reaches to rub at the back of his head. ) I'm a defender of the universe! ( please lance, don't strike a pose, don't embarrass yourself for like the billionth time since you became a paladin of voltron, please for the love of everything that's ever been holy anywhere —

he doesn't. at least. but his grin is pretty wide, now. ) Band, huh? That's cool. Never tried to play an instrument myself, probably because I don't think I could. ( or read sheet music, for that matter. )

[Lisa's eyes widen at the declaration; like some kind of superhero or something? That's. Yeah, it suddenly makes a lot of sense why someone with a job like that would end up on Norrhamn.]

That's... really cool. It sounds like the kind of thing I'd see on the news. Or the Saturday morning cartoons. "Local hero fights evil, triumphs, saves Japan again." But it sure explains needing a vacation.

It kind of makes me sound boring by comparison, haha... But Roselia is special to me, so that's okay, right? You can fight stuff, I'll play the music for your epic movie adaptation. But if you ever wanted to try, I could see if I could teach you.

( not quite like a superhero, because when he gets hurt he gets hurt, but … almost. superhero-adjacent, maybe.

see, you need to go convince his buddy keith that it's just fine to want a vacation. even leaders deserve them!

he laughs, because this whole situation makes him feel pretty lighthearted, and … he hadn't honestly realized that it's been so long since he'd felt that way for longer than. maybe a day? not that he's unhappy being red's pilot or a paladin of voltron or a defender of the universe — more that he kind of wishes that sort of job came with a pension. and paid time off. it seems like it should.

his smile is ridiculously wide. ) You're happy playing your music, right? That makes you the opposite of boring. You should always do what makes you happy. ( well listen to you, mister motivational speaker. ) We kinda already did the adaptation thing, except it was … more like a stage performance. Still great though — I wish we could do it again. ( he pauses again, looking every bit like he's finally remembered something very important. )

I'm Lance, by the way. And you might end up regretting that if I actually say yes. ( you dork. )

[She grins at the laugh; if he really needed the vacation, then all the better, right? But as he talks, it becomes a little more honest.]

I... It does make me happy, yeah. I get to help people important to me, I get to make people happy listening to our music, what's not to like? So thanks. I think I needed that. [Even if she needs to hear it a few ~~dozen~~ more times for it to sink in.] And let me know! I think Roselia could do something magical for it.

I'm Lisa. And I'm trying hard not to have too many regrets. I made that mistake once. Once was enough.

( if there's one thing that has always been true about this boy right here, it's that the longer he's allowed to run his mouth, the more honest he tends to get; he's the first to use humor when it comes to deflection, but once someone stops long enough to actually engage him in an in-depth conversation?

he opens up. like a gosh darn flower. it's cute but it can be embarrassing sometimes, because he also has a tendency to not know when it would benefit him to keep his mouth shut.

still, right in this second his smile is bright and genuine and every bit everything he is in this place right now. he's going to get a break. he's going to relax. he's going to be as lazy as possible until someone comes along and kicks his butt into doing something that isn't sitting. on his butt. ) Hey, anytime! We all need reassuring sometimes, right? That's like, completely normal. ( he's kind of the same way, though. needs to be reminded that he's doing a good thing and being of use when there's need for it.

but since there's not going to be any forming of voltron here … maybe that's a moot point. ) Lisa. ( he says it to himself, and immediately decides that she looks like a lisa. it fits her. cute. ) No regrets, okay? Life's too short for that crap.

( ... well-put, lance. that. no one could have said it better. )

Yeah, you can say that again. [Genuine indeed! Lisa can almost feel it rolling off him, and it's reassuring.

As Lance goes on, her smile is even brighter. This guy is smooth, but maybe she needs that. She can't get her reassurance from Yukina all the time.] It is. Nothing but good thoughts and flying high for me! I owe my friends that much, I think.

( he's a dope and everyone should know it — if they don't already, which, stick around him long enough and it will all get to be crystal clear. he's not quite as smooth as he thinks he is ( because he could never be that smooth, come on buddy ) but if that's what she needs, then he's glad to be able to provide.

he's really just glad that he's already making friends here. which makes him wonder: ) Are any of them here with you? Vacation's not so much fun if you have to start it alone. ( a beat, and then: ) I'm here, though. So there's one friend. ( lance …

good grief, you are something. )

[She's starting to get that sense, but that's okay. Between her band mates and her classmates she's met all kinds.]

No, none of the others are here... I wouldn't mind it, but if certain of them showed up, I think it would defeat the purpose, yeah? If Yukina showed up and wanted to practice all the time, that wouldn't help me relax any. I don't think she knows how to relax unless I'm with her.

I wouldn't mind making new friends, though! Thanks, Lance. You're right, that's one. And hopefully I can make more while I'm here.

[Her smile is bright. She's super up for meeting new people! As long as they're okay with her making a little too much noise from time to time.]

( all kinds, huh? that's definitely something. especially with him thrown in the mix like he is now.

he can tell her that grin is genuine, bright as the rest of her and he likes to think that he put that there, whether by dint of just being genuine himself or the fact that he's an utter loon sometimes — it doesn't matter as long as it's there, and she's enjoying herself, because if she'd applied to come here she deserves that much. ) I bet you will. ( he nods, sure of it. )

We both will! This seems like the place you go to make new friends. ( and like. take a load off, for sure. )

[She could tell stories. Like the bear suit that DJs.]

That's the spirit! [She laughs.] And I can only hope it's a lot. Playing to an empty house isn't any fun.

[He's kind of a dork, but... she can't really complain. She needs more of that in her life, and it doesn't count coming from Roselia. And speaking of them, her eyes slide to one of the few things that marks her as part of the band, leaning against her suitcase.]

Hey, I should probably drop off my bass before something happens to it... Sorry, I don't mean to run off so soon, but it's kind of important to me.

( a bear suit that djs. count him in for that one.

he's always going to be kind of a dork, it's like. ingrained in him to a degree that there is no coming back from, and it's nice that she isn't immediately put off by it. he's made a new friend here, and he's going to count that as a win, no matter how dorky his first impression on her has been.

he looks down, then back up at her. ) Oh! Don't worry about it, gotta keep your stuff safe. ( his smile is still lopsided, as it has been from the start, and he shoots her a wink.

which is just. even more nerdy than he has been thus far. lance, you need to stop the winking thing. it's never going to work on anyone, regardless of intent. ) It was really nice to meet you. Maybe we'll bump into each other soon.

[Misaki goes through so much with her band of misfits. Heaven forbid any of them actually realize there's a person in the suit.

But in any event, when the wink comes in, she grins wider. Really, the dork is kind of endearing?? It's refreshing after what she normally deals with.]

Maybe we will! It's not like there are that many people around here, right? Shout if you ever want to hang out or something! I'm sure I can make time.

[The bass goes back over her shoulder, securely hanging on her back, neck over her head. The remaining bag is heavier but she'll manage.]

Take it easy, all right, Lance? I'll see you around.
