Summer 1 - Greetings and Welcome - Action

[ It's a mild sunny day when the first group of guests make land at Norrhamn. A gentle breeze rustle the birch trees and tangle in the bunting that's hung across the buildings in celebration of this very special occasion. Aina has been busy gathering up guests over the last few hours and now the ferry is approaching the port, waves breaking gently against the bow.

Olivia is waiting on the jetty, clipboard hugged close to her body. She's excited and nervous all at once, anxious to get to meet these people that she's read so much about, the faces behind the pleading letters. This is the first day her new job becomes hands on. Hopefully she'll be good at it.

As the ferry lands and lets the guests off, Olivia raises a hand in a cheerful greeting. ]

Hello! Welcome to Norrhamn!

[ Being assigned to Lingonberry cabin meant finding Lingonberry cabin. Haein's not directionally challenged, but it does take a while for him to come across it, if only because there are So Many Cabins. Once he reaches the right one, he's a little surprised and a lot wary when he's greeted by a stranger on the porch, one hand coming up to pull the hood over his head a bit lower. ]

New.

[ He stops just in front of the cabin, adjusting the bag over his shoulder as he eyes the casts on her arm and leg. ]

Is this your cabin?

[ggs]

The one I was assigned, yeah. I haven't been upstairs yet.

[ She gestures to her leg. ]

Once I get up there, I'm not moving for awhile, you know? Name's Hana.

[unwieldy]

Hm.

[ That's literally all the acknowledgement she gets for her leg. A decent person might have offered to help, but a decent person Haein is not. ]

Haein. [ No nice to meet you or anything... Just making his way on the porch as well, then dropping his bag next to the cabin door like the mannerless fool he is. ] I guess we're sharing a cabin.

[ggs]

[ She probably wouldn't have accepted help from anyone who offered anyway. Doing that is still a work in progress for her. She likes relying on herself. ]

Guess so. [ She tilts her head to look him over. ] Korean?

[unwieldy]

[ Independence will go a long way with a cabin mate as awful as this guy. ]

From Seoul. [ He sizes her up, takes note of her name and the fact that she doesn't look Japanese to assume she's also Korean, then turns the question back on her. ] You?

[ggs]

Busan.

[ There's a small smile here. Her city means a lot to her, and she's proud to defend it. But the smile has a second cause: he doesn't recognize her. Either that or he's pretending not to. Everyone in Korea knows the girl whose image is projected on buildings' windows or cans of Nano Cola. But if he doesn't know who she is, than it's true that people come here from all over, even other versions of Earth. ]

Have you heard of the Mobile Exo-Force of the Korean Army? I'm just checking something.

[unwieldy]

[ Oh... His mom's from Busan, and she's one of the few people he cares about which is saying a lot since he doesn't need all five fingers on one hand to count the amount of people he genuinely likes.

He doesn't mention it, of course, but the correlation is oddly comforting. Some of his earlier tension and wariness bleeds away. Though still a bit guarded, he's finding their interaction relatively harmless enough. ]

I've never heard of it. [ Sounds like a heckin' mouthful, and also kind of serious?? ] What is it?

[ggs]

MEKA is the unit I belong to. We pilot mechs to protect the coastal cities from the Gwishin — the giant robot that hides under the ocean and keeps coming to attack us. If you haven't heard of MEKA or the Gwishin, then there must be alternate Earths. I heard that it was possible, but it wasn't something I was sure I really believed.

[unwieldy]

This must be what they meant by the multiverse... [ Trails off. He's not too sure what to make of it. It sounds ridiculous and hard to take seriously, but if he's good at anything, it's adapting to strange situations. ] You're a soldier, then.

[ Gaze drops back down to her casted leg. ]

I imagine you're prone to sustaining serious injuries if you're fighting... giant robots.

[ggs]

Yep.

[ And she's proud of it, too. Protecting her country is worth more than all the gaming trophies and prizes she's collected. ]

Not really. It was a unique situation. An unexpected attack and my unit all out recovering while their mechs were being repaired.

[ She shrugs. ]

It's usually not as bad as this for me.

[unwieldy]

[ All of her unit? Haein's silent as he considers the implication that she fought giant robots on her own. That's pretty impressive. Not that he would ever say. ]

Well. You'll have time to recover here.

[ Picks his bag back up from the ground. He still needs to process all of this. ]

Are you going to stay out here? Because I'm going inside.

[ggs]

Well, I may as well get used to walking around the place.

[ She pushes down on the arms of her chair to lift herself out of it. ]

And we can pick our rooms. Though I may just claim whichever's closest to the stairs.

[unwieldy]

[ Works for him! He'll probably end up with the room as far away from the entrance as possible. Because he's a loner like that. ]

Sure. Doesn't matter to me.

[ Opens the door to their cabin and leaves it open for Hana before stepping inside to get a good look. ]

[ggs]

[ She toddles in after on her crutches, focusing on where she's going. She took a brief look earlier, but upstairs is still a mystery. ]

Going up? If so, you can go first. If not, you won't be able to get up there for awhile. Not until I've got this stupid cast up each step.

[ Where's an elevator when you need one? ]

[unwieldy]

[ Wow, yeah, that would be inconvenient... FOR HIM. ]

Don't fall and break your other leg.

[ Normally people would say it as a joke or out of concern, but Haein's completely deadpan about it.

But yes, he'll head up first. Good luck, Hana! ]

[ggs]

[ She lets out a huff. ]

I won't!

[ Probably. It wouldn't be out of character to push herself too hard. ]
