Autumn Six | Action | Closed to Spike

[Ianto will be the first to admit that the outdoors aren’t exactly his thing. He’s spent most of his time here in the more inhabited areas, occasionally venturing to the beach but rarely further. So he’s frankly feeling rather proud of himself today for his decision to actually do some hiking, and equally glad that he’s convinced Spike to come along. And if it leads to a chance to investigate the lake after his strange encounter there the other day, well, that’s just an added bonus.

He glances around their cabin one last time before shouldering the backpack that contains as much of a picnic as can be had when half the people involved only drink blood. At least that means it isn’t heavy.]

Right. Shall we?

Chances are they'll never be entirely out of trouble, unless they isolate themselves from the rest of society completely. Being a vampire attracts trouble, that's just part of the deal.

Spike relinquishes the hold on Ianto's hand in favour for sliding an arm around his waist, tucking him in close as they start to get closer to the lake. Last time they were here together it was still summer and the island was new and exciting. This feels different. Heavier.

"Only as long as it stays in your body." Hot isn't the right word for it. Beautiful is more like it, a sentiment he's not going to voice. "Are you sure they would've told us? Or are they more interested in us believing in the advertisement?"

Eventually they need to leave. There's no way around that, unless they settle down on this little spit of land for the rest of eternity and honestly, that sounds worse than meeting a definite end in the ruins of Sunnydale. No, they have to go, at some point. Just need to work up the courage to take that step.

He gives Ianto a look at that revelation, horrified but not that surprised. It's not that he's shy about their activities but for fuck sake, is a little bit of privacy so much to ask for? In the woods? In some other creature's lake? Really.

"You sure you want to chat him up again? Keep this up and he'll really take a liking to you."

Well, if they're trying to catch a water nymph then what better bait to set than sex? He catches that look, as he always does, returning it with a gentle roll of his eyes.

"Oh, I know. I've been busy getting them off you for the past five years."

Not that Ianto has been that much of a trouble magnet, but they do stick out in some places. A vampire and a mortal, in an actual relationship full of romance? Unheard of. Downright obscene.

"I'm starting to think you like being in trouble."

He steps in close, hands on Ianto's hips, head tilted to go in for a kiss but holding back for just a moment more, lingering so tantalisingly close.

"That it gets you off."

"Hmn, I don't know. The past five years were a pretty good indication."

He's come to terms with Ianto's desire to turn, understands and even agrees with the logic that fuels it, but damn if he isn't going to miss moments like these. The warmth of a living body so close to him is beyond arousing, but just as much a metaphor for where his life has taken him. It's not the consuming fire of Drusilla, destroying everything in its path, not anything close to his never-to-be memories of Buffy who stoked and sparked the fire in his own soul until it drove him insane. No, this is warmth and security. This is home.

Home, and really sexy. He leans in a fraction closer, basking in the sensation of Ianto's breath on his skin, the intimacy they've built up.

"Don't you dare."

He breaks in that moment, closing the short distance between them in a heated, desperate kiss. You can only tease him for so long before he gives in and Ianto's always been particularly good at pushing his boundaries to the limit. His hands find Ianto's hips, his back, pulling him in as close as he can.

Sometimes he wonders how this dynamic will change when Ianto isn't quite so powerless. Even if everything goes perfectly, he'll still have a demon inside him and that can make all the difference. Maybe Spike won't be so obvious a choice for the protector, the aggressor as he is these days.

Never mind that. The only thing that matters is the moment, and right now he wants nothing more than to push Ianto up against a convenient tree and ravish him - so he does just that.

While that might happen, it's unlikely. Spike fell in love with him despite him being human - it wasn't until later that he started to adore the soft, warm qualities of the living but none of that is what makes Ianto who he is. It may inform his actions, shape his morals, but it's not as big a part of him as people may think. Hell, Spike was often accused of being lousy with humanity and he wasn't nearly as empathetic when he was alive as Ianto is now.

Ianto's always been good at getting the show on the road and so Spike is more than happy to leave him to it, instead focusing on something he will miss once the turning is done. It's a dangerous temptation and maybe that's what he likes about it — every time he can lean in close to Ianto's neck and press his blunt teeth against his pulse is a victory, proof that he's in control of himself.

He bites down with a low guttural growl, hard but not quite hard enough to break the skin. It's a practiced movement, one they've perfected over the past five and then some years.
