Summer 11 - Medieval Week Mingle

Okay, so maybe Norrhamn isn't as big of a tourist attraction as Gotland. Maybe it's not home to the best preserved medieval city in Scandinavia, complete with ring wall and twelve church ruins. Maybe it can't even compete with the near Mediterranean climate that Visby has during those late summer weeks, but Norrhamn knows one thing — how to do a lot with very little.

Welcome to Medieval Week - Lite Edition

The beach on the eastern side of the Island has been decked out with as many wooden tables and benches as is logistically possible, while still leaving some areas free for games and dancing. There's a wooden stage set up close to the woods, and a couple of racks of lovingly sponsored time-appropriate clothes available for those who want to blend in with the times.

Entertainment: To set the mood, management hired a band of Baltic musicians that will take up the stage for most of the day, playing well into the night. There's also dumb-ass jester performances from time to time, usually while the musicians are taking a break. The biggest event however is the fire show that starts up as soon as night falls right by the edge of the water.

Games: There's not quite enough room for an actual jousting tournament (my heart breaks) but there's a whole heap of stick horses for those eager to make their own. You're also welcome to take part in any number of feats of skill and strength, like rövkrok, armwrestling, or pillow-fighting on a slick wooden log. For those of a more intellectual persuasion, there's also a number of medieval board- card- and dicegames available.

Food and drink: Oh man. Oh man? There's so much food. Like, if some of the early guests thought that first welcome party had food in abundance, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Between the whole spit-roasted wild boar, through the pea soup and pork, the saffron-pancakes with dewberry jam, the roasted root vegetables (no potatoes in sight), the smoked pike-perch, the freshly baked spiced breads, the apple- hazelnut bread pudding, no one will go home hungry*. Wash it down with flagons of mead, spiced wine, beer brewed on honey and hops, or perfectly alcohol-free elderberry or lingonberry lemonades.

*There is of course thirium alternatives for the android population.

[ He's never really considered any music that deeply before, and that's definitely an interesting metaphor. There's actually a moment where Hyunseok pauses, and tilts his head a little to see if he can hear this warmth for his hearing.

He's not sure he can, or that he really gets it. ]

Neither have I, until now. I think that's why I like it so much. It's so new to me.

That's a lie, he likes pretty faces regardless, but he has nothing particularly against nerds.

He glances up at the stage. It's not something he'd choose to listen to on his own time, but it definitely fits the situation they're in. Also... ]

Yeah, it's got a pretty energetic feel to it.

I agree. [ Then, with a softening of her smile for a smoother transition- ] I'm Chloe.

[ He smiles back, looking pretty pleased with himself. He doesn't always make good first impressions, so he's doing pretty well not fucking this up yet in his opinion. ]

[ Try for smooth? Try for smooth. ]

[ Good word choice save there, bud. ]

[ She's programmed to be okay with awkwardness. Have you met her owner/creator. ]

Thank you, Hyunseok. [ She has... never heard that. Why did Elijah pick Chloe for her model series' name anyway? ] Yours is nice too.

Have you been here long? I'm pretty new.

[ He has not, and considering what the guy is like it might be best for Hyunseok that he never does.

He scratches his head considering the question. ]

Uh, not that long? I think I was part of the first group of people to show up, but none of us have really been here all that long, you know?

Oh. I didn't realize this was such a new establishment.

[ It's hard to tell when it isn't from your dimension. ]

Have you tried any of the games? I'd love to watch people play. Maybe we can take bets - you know, for fun!

[ He isn't sure how new the place itself is, just that the group of getaway tourist currently there haven't been around for long.

But the bets comment makes him smile uncertainly, then a little more genuinely when he decides she probably isn't joking. ]

Sure, but I don't exactly have a lot of money if I lose.

That's okay - it's just for fun!

[ Chloe just wants to make friends, you know? Pardon her almost childish excitement. ]

Or maybe we can bet, I don't know, chore duty?

[ Oh, she's already got a bet in mind, huh? Man that was way faster than he could try to make some sort of joking suggestion while angling to get a date out of this.

He looks a little dumbfounded for a second. ]

Just chores?

[ When you can process one billion billion "thoughts" per second, it's less that she has something in mind and more that it came up when she was processing. He coule very well still get a date out of this tbh. ]

We can bet something else if you want.

[ He nods. Yes, yes he would definitely like to bet something else, but here's the part where he has to play his cards right.

He's very bad at this part. ]
