Summer 3 - action on the farm

Jack is not and has never been a farmer. But he does know the value of vigorous physical activity in helping to deal with psychological pain, and so this morning brings him over to the farm to help out with the potato harvest.

He shows up perhaps a little later than some of the others (he's not naturally a particularly early riser, especially when he's on holiday!) and ambles up the path towards the farm buildings, looking out for the farmer.

He's worked hard and by the time the bus comes round again on its way back to the village, he's ready to hitch a ride with some of the others rather than walk. They haven't talked all that much while they were working, and there are several he hasn't spoken to at all, so he grins round at the person settling into the seat across the way. "Feels like a good day's work, eh!"

"I'm sure the potatoes won't hold too much of a grudge..."

She gives a little shrug, lips quirked in amusement. "It's been nice. I have spent all my life in the city, I've never been in the countryside at all. And I sure didn't think I would ever get to visit a farm."

"I hope not! I understand we're supposed to be eating them tomorrow!" he grins, and then raises his eyebrows. "Wow, this place must be quite an adjustment for you then! Can't really get any more rural than this."

North gives a little scoff, more amused than scornful. "You could say that." She pauses, thinking for a moment about how to put the difference into words. No, she doesn't really have any. "This place feels like something out of the history entries. Even their phones are extremely outdated."

As an android, she would be kind of professionally insulted except she never had any intention to use the phone.

"Yeah, it's very archaic and traditional here, isn't it?" he agrees, with the tone of someone who's also been used to a much higher level of technology.

"Almost deliberately so, in some ways. The tech's obviously available, or they wouldn't be able to reach out to us and bring us here, but they've chosen to keep everything here as simple and tech-free as they can."
