Summer 21 | clinging to summer | Open

The Port

He's come here to escape the Navy, yes, but he doesn't want to escape the sea. It's lovely to be on an island, surrounded by the smell of salt water, and not have to worry about mad captains.

It'd be nicest if Horatio was here, but that's not something he can help right now.

So he does the next best thing and decides to go out on the water. There are rowboats out on the port, and while it's not a ship-of-the-line, it's still a boat. It's enough to be able to get out on the sea.

He'd be more than happy to take someone with him, if anyone's interested.

-

The General Store

Stopping by the general store is a necessary thing, to get supplies for daily living and paddles for going rowing. He'll even contemplate acquiring fishing equipment, though he ultimately decides that's something for a slightly later venture.

He'll probably end up asking about some of the more modern equipment he encounters in the store. There's a lot here that's new and innovative, for him.

-

The Beach

Much though he loves taking a turn out on a rowboat, the beach might be his favorite part of the island so far. It's a joy to explore the sand and see if he makes any interesting discoveries. To brave the water and its encroaching lilies on occasion to try and see if there's anything in the tide pools.

To study the signs carved over the shelters with no small amount of curiosity.

General store

Hanako is most relieved that not many people are walking around the store at this hour. She's not really on shopping duty or anything, but still asked Jack to let her go instead of him today. You may call it training, but in order to calm her fear of crowds she needs to make an attempt and enter one of the places people often frequent. After making extra sure her hair covers her facial scars, she's now focusing on the food and other supplies she has to pick from the list Jack wrote down, a small basket hanging from her arm.

Suddenly her shoulders go stiff when she senses someone speaking up with a question the half of which escapes her mind quickly. Looking around, she sees no one but a man standing next to her. It takes willpower not to just jump out of her skin.

"Ah...?" Hanako babbles a little, mouth moving like a fish's before she regains the ability to speak properly. "I'm sorry, w-would you please repeat the question...?"

no problem!

She's quick to scold herself for causing the man to carefully speak to her. The reason why she accepted to have a vacation to Norrhamn is to one day avoid bringing that reaction in people at all. It's something that she loathes deeply. But correcting her behavior requires that confidence she already dropped when the man spoke to her. At the very least his question is easy to answer.

"... It's a swim ring." Shoulders tensing, she gives the row of items a pointed stare. "They're f-for children who haven't learned how to s-swim yet."

It's almost annoying how quickly he's become a pensioner. There's nothing to do on this island most days, so he's forced to come up with his own routines — it's after breakfast, so that means a stroll and a smoke along the water before heading back to the cabin. He hates everything about this particular aspect of island life, so it's no great surprise that he'll take any chance he can get to break the monotony.

Like hassle what he assumes is a newcomer. That usually works.

"Escaping so soon?"
sparkandburn: (neu; in the darkest place)

that's what the game is for!

"You'll get there." he responds, encouraging. That seems to be what people are looking for here after all - a little bit of boredom.

He takes a moment to look the guy over, taking note of how he straightened when spoken to. Spike's always been the observant type, sometimes overtly so. Most of the time he guesses. Most of the time, that guess is an educated one.

"Sailor, then? Navy?"

sparkandburn: (neu; turn me to dust)

Normally Spike isn't the kind of guy who shakes hands but he's learned to make some exceptions. He's not deep in the demon world anymore, manners mean something and with a partner as polite as Ianto Jones, it's difficult not to fall into it a little bit.

"Spike. Just Spike." His eyes narrow further in thought. "His Majesty? When exactly are you from?"
