There have been waterlilies throughout summer, clustered around the shorelines and butting up against the jetty. Sometimes they've bloomed, sometimes they haven't, but it's never been quite like this. They're everywhere now, even as we move into autumn. They crowd the beach, they give the ferry a hard time to land, they practically fill the lake end to end — and they're all blooming in golden yellow and bright white.

It's unnatural, in so many ways. Beckoning. Come closer. ]

Clever man. There are rules and agreements set in place, but if there's one thing the Unseen are good at it's taking advantage of whatever loopholes they can find in those rules and agreements - and why shouldn't they? Trolls have been tricked into building churches for centuries because someone exploited vague language in the contract.

"Any-where you please. Though if you're staying here you might want to bring a sweater. It can get quite cold at night."

If there’s one thing he’s learned by now, especially from Spike, there are always rules and loopholes when it comes to dealing with the supernatural. If there’s one thing he’s taking away from this it’s to be careful where he wanders off to on this island.

“I’ll take that into consideration. Do you get cold, spending most of your time in the lake?” Or should he be on the lookout for this person outside of the water, too?

A wise idea, and maybe the Brook is sensing that this particular guest won't be so easy to trick into doing... well, whatever he might want him to do. It's a challenge and honestly, with how boring this island can be on the best of days that doesn't sound like a bad way to spend his time.

"Oh no, not at all. Darling, I am the lake." He smirks at that, pleased with the revelation. "Not bound by it, mind you. I'm not trapped in my kingdom."

He’s not easy to trap per say but he does always seem to be the one who ends up in these situations so it’s not an impossibility. If there’s trouble he’s almost always guaranteed to end up in the middlle of it whether he’s looking for it or not.

Once again he can’t help but wish Spike were here - he seems much more qualified for this conversation. Still, he can put the basic pieces together and come to a conclusion that this is someone to be careful around but perhaps not outright evil - he didn’t object to his last visit to the lake after all. “Do you often make your presence known or do you prefer to stay out of sight for the most part?”

"So full of questions." he purrs, not unkindly. He stretches back to float in the water, leisurely bobbing among the lily pads.

"It depends, if I'm honest. The locals are so scared, so worried for no reason that I don't see it worth my time to let them know I'm here."

Well. With one notable exception.

"If someone wishes to speak to me, if they seek me out, perhaps even want something from me..? Then I don't mind it so much."

“What sort of things might people want from you?” So many red flags at those statements. Yeah he’s smart enough to assume there is a reason people are afraid, and a cost for those wishes. This can’t all be relaxing swims in lily pads or pretty flowers.

"Oh, many things!" He exclaims with growing excitement. It really has been awhile since he had a visitor. "Whatever you could wish for, I could get it done... for a price."

Usually it's stuff like being really good at the violin. Okay, almost always it's being really good at the violin but he's sure he could apply that particular power to literally anything else a person could ask for.

To be honest he doesn’t particularly care about learning the violin so maybe best not to elaborate on that. “I’m afraid there isn’t much I can think to wish for at the moment.” Well, complicated solutions to souls and immortality and that sort of thing. But they have a plan, more or less so it’s not worth whatever the consequences of a wish would be.

"My my... all content? That's unexpected."

He looks Ianto over thoughtfully, head cocked to the side.

"Then why did you come out here? To this island of the malcontents?"

That question shouldn’t catch him off guard but it does. Everyone does seem to have a reason for being here after all, something they’re running from. At least in his case he knows what it is and how to achieve it on his own.

“Vacation,” He replies blandly, in that was of his that clearly means there’s something under the surface. “Fresh air, that sort of thing.”

Yeah, he's not buying that excuse for a second and he isn't shy about showing how little he thinks of it. A full on eyeroll from a cryptid, good job.

"Well, you've come to the right place. Can't find fresher air this side of the polar circle."

“Yes, I couldn’t agree more. If it’s all the same to you I think I may go enjoy a bit more of it now.” Polite as always but he can’t help but feel maybe this is a good time to step back and get away from this creature, even if he isn’t immediately aggressive or dangerous. He still makes Ianto uneasy.

"Very well." He smiles, thin and slippery like a snake, before sinking back into the water.

"Don't be a stranger."
